Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped | Outreach to the Blind & Physically Handicapped
Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) has initiated an exciting Outreach Campaign along the I-79 corridor serving 37 counties in western Pennsylvania. The new mobile LBPH, a brightly decorated van, is outfitted with the latest reading equipment, talking books, large print books, and narrated videos. The van travels to outlying areas, including Slippery Rock University and local shopping malls. While at these sites library staff explain how readers with disabilities can obtain convenient services for free through LBPH and the U.S. Postal Service. LBPH collaborates with community libraries, consumer groups and legislators to reach more readers. Publicity through newspapers, radio and television supports this effort.
